Tom Spang became CEO of Advanced Power (Group) in 2014 and remains President of Advanced Power (North America). He is an Executive Board Member and a Founding Shareholder of Advanced Power. Before this, he set up and led Advanced Power’s activities in North America, lately as President (North America). He is also a member of the Advanced Power Senior Management Committee.
Between 1994 and 2004, amongst other responsibilities, Mr. Spang was Vice President and Head of UK Development for InterGen in Edinburgh and London, where he successfully led the project team for the 860 MW Spalding project. Mr. Spang was also Vice President, Asset Management for InterGen in Boston, where he was responsible for successfully restructuring InterGen’s insurance program. Prior to joining InterGen, Mr. Spang was a developer for J. Makowski Company, a Boston-based developer of CHP and IPP projects, where he was involved in the development of projects in USA, Canada, the Netherlands, Germany, Portugal and Spain.
Mr. Spang earned a BA in economics and a minor degree in political science at Hobart College in New York, USA.
Peter Ramm is CEO (Europe) and Group Technical Director. He is an Executive Board Member and a Founding Shareholder of Advanced Power. Mr. Ramm is responsible for Advanced Power’s activities in Europe and is the Technical Director for Advanced Power globally. He is also a member of the Advanced Power Senior Management Committee.
Prior to joining Advanced Power, Mr. Ramm worked for InterGen, where he led the technical aspects of the development of the 800 MW Knapsack project, the technical support for the 860 MW Spalding and 800 MW Rijnmond projects. Mr. Ramm has also led the technical due diligence into Italian CIP 6 plants and various coal-fired and CCGT plants in the UK, assessing plant utilizing GE, Siemens, Mitsubishi and Alstom gas turbines. Between 1992 and 2001, Mr. Ramm worked at PB Power representing many leading financial institutions and heading up technical due diligence teams for the review of various international power plant projects worldwide. Between 1984 and 1992, Mr. Ramm worked for GEC Large Steam Turbine in all aspects of power plant development, design, manufacturing and construction.
Mr. Ramm is a Fellow of the IMechE and has a MA and a BA (Hons) in Engineering from Cambridge University.
Chuck Davis is responsible for the management of Advanced Power’s investments that are under construction or in operation. He is also a member of the Advanced Power Senior Management Committee.
Mr. Davis has more than 25 years of experience in energy infrastructure development, finance, investment and general management. His experience with major infrastructure projects includes management of the full green-field development cycle from inception through financing, as well as leadership and management of operating businesses. Prior to joining Advanced Power, Mr. Davis was President and CEO of Drax Biomass, where he led the establishment of Drax Power’s US pellet manufacturing and logistics business, which includes over 1 million tons/year of wood pellet manufacturing capacity and an associated port facility. Before that, he was a Senior Advisor with Morgan Stanley Infrastructure Partners, where he managed portfolio company investments. At InterGen and J. Makowski Associates he held senior management positions in the USA, Europe and Asia, both as a project developer and as head of InterGen’s UK business. Before his civilian career, he served in the United States Marine Corps. Mr. Davis holds a BA from Tufts University and an MBA from Dartmouth College’s Tuck School of Business Administration.
Martin Bashall is the Group General Counsel, Executive Board Member, Secretary of the Board and a Founding Shareholder of Advanced Power. Mr. Bashall is responsible for Advanced Power’s legal and corporate governance affairs. He is also a member of the Advanced Power Senior Management Committee.
Prior to his joining Advanced Power, Mr. Bashall was at InterGen as Vice President and regional General Counsel for Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Before joining InterGen, Mr. Bashall was in private practice as Counsel with the New York law firm of Chadbourne & Parke, specializing in the project financing of power projects in Pakistan, China and the Philippines. Prior to his time at Chadbourne & Parke, Mr. Bashall was at the law firms of Freshfields and Clifford Chance.
Mr. Bashall holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Rhodesia. He is a solicitor of the High Court of Justice for England and Wales and a member of the International Bar Association.
Jonathan Winslow is Senior Vice President of Development. Mr. Winslow oversees and is responsible for all of Advanced Power’s feasibility and development activities in the United States. He is also a member of the Advanced Power Senior Management Committee.
Mr. Winslow has over 15 years of experience in business development in the environmental and energy sectors. He has held various positions in finance and development at Advanced Power since joining in 2007, including Project Manager of the 700 MW Carroll County Energy project, where he successfully originated, developed and led the project team to a $899 million project financing in April 2015. Prior to joining Advanced Power, Mr. Winslow was an integral part of a team at JCI Holdings responsible for the development and launch of several major infrastructure projects and environmental and energy startup companies throughout the Northeast United States.
Mr. Winslow has a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education and environmental sciences from the University of Vermont and an MBA in finance from Northeastern University.
Robert De Meyere is Vice President of Development for Advanced Power and Project Manager for the Cricket Valley Energy project. He has experience in the U.S. and international power industries, with expertise in project management, business development and strategic planning. He is also a member of the Advanced Power Senior Management Committee.
Prior to Advanced Power, Mr. De Meyere was an integral part of the investment team at BTU Ventures, establishing and investing a $290 million private equity fund. Prior to joining BTU, he was the Manager of Project Development at PG&E National Energy Group, the unregulated subsidiary of PG&E Corp. At PG&E he had primary responsibility for leading a multi-discipline team in the development of a 1,200 MW gas-fired combined-cycle plant. His green-field development and project acquisition experience includes over 4700 MW of operating plants totaling over $4.0 billion. Mr. De Meyere’s responsibilities ranged from initiating independent power and cogeneration projects to the acquisition and divestment of projects in Asia, Africa, North America and the Middle East.
Mr. De Meyere holds a BS with honors in civil engineering from Northeastern University and a BS in biology from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and courses toward a Master of Business Administration at Northeastern University.
